There isn’t really a “wrong” way to name your pet. We were kidding around before about calling your snake by name, but in actuality, your pet won’t care about his or her way at all. This is all about you.
But many keepers struggle to name their reptilian pets. After all, things like “Fido” and “Lassie” don’t exactly fit snakes, lizards or turtles. So, we’ll share 189 different examples and try to get your creative juices flowing by discussing some of the things you may want to think about when picking a name.

How to Choose a Good Name?
There aren’t any hard-and-fast rules about picking a ball python’s name; you can name your snake whatever you like. That said, we’d recommend thinking carefully about your personality, as well as your snake’s unique characteristics when making your choice.
For example, if you’re in culinary school, a food-related name seems like a no-brainer. Similarly, if you’re a history professor, or simply interested in the ancient world, you may find a mythical name is ideal.
Of course, if your snake has something truly unique about him – such as breath-taking colors or unusual pattern elements – you should consider basing his name around that. Perhaps “Ghost” for a hypomelanistic specimen or “Onyx” for an unusually dark specimen.
Ultimately, the most important thing is just that you pick a name you like. Your snake won’t mind one way or the other.
One final tip: Don’t ever name your snake something offensive. Even if you think it’s funny, you probably won’t find it amusing when you have to explain your snake’s name to your vet!
It’s Your Turn!
As you can see, there is no shortage of awesome ball python names for you to choose from. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time to think about it, and don’t be afraid to get creative!
I’ve never come up with an especially awesome ball python name, but I did have a beautiful Sumatran blood python for many years with a fantastic name. As a bright orange, pointy-tailed snake, the name “Carrots” seemed appropriate. It became even more awesome when you consider her typical food source: rabbits.
Does your ball python have a particularly awesome name? We’d love to hear about it! Let us know what name you chose in the comments below, and don’t forget to share this article with your snake-keeping friends!

I recently adopted a 7 year old Volta Ball Python.. The name she came with is less than fitting of her so I want to rename her.. But I want something that fits both her personality and size.. She is very very sweet, but being a Volta she is huge.. She is 6ft in length and 4800 grams in weight.. I have 7 other ball pythons who I have chosen Gaelic names for.. But I was thinking something more Greek Mythology for her.. Suggestions would be appreciated..

can someone give me reasons to get a ball python I am trying to convince my parents into letting me get one? I am making a slide show of why we should get a snake. I have one dog in the house. I am 13 years old and I heard ball pythons are good with kids, I am the youngest in my house not including my dog. Anything I can use to convince them?
Hey, Kayleigh!
I remember (decades ago) trying to convince my parents to let me have a snake! So, I certainly sympathize with your situation.
I’d recommend focusing on the educational aspects of getting a snake for a pet. In doing so, you’ll learn about biology, ecology, geography, physics and several other disciplines!
Also, it may be worth noting that snakes are rather low-maintenance pets when compared to dogs. They’re also silent, they do not shed hair all over the place, and they are much cheaper to maintain than a dog.
Best of luck!
“Physics” even though snakes sometimes defy physics, lol 😂
Some reasons are that they are quiet, only need to be fed once a week, and turn enclosure wont stink up quickly like some other pets like Guinea pigs. They are good beginner snakes and do not have a mean personality usually. They make snake cages that you can put a pin in in the screen on the top so the snake wont be able to escape. Also, you can offer to keep the snake in your room or somewhere your family may not see alot if they are scared of it. They are also pretty cheap snakes so if you can you can offer to pay for the snake which may make your parents realize that you are serious about this and it’s not just a phase. It’s also important to learn as much as you can to let them know you know what you are talking about. I hope this helped, I just recently got my first snake and I’m a little older than you. It took my mom a while to convince but after sitting her down and actually having a conversation with her, she eventually agreed. I got a corn snake and now she is kinda getting more attached to him.
Hey I’m 13 now and I had a ball python when I was born they are great with kids. I’m actually getting one in a few days. Hopefully they already have gotten you a ball python.
Ball pythons r my favorite type of snake in getting one for my birthday next month

I am 10 too and just today got my new ball python, Noodle.

I’m also getting mine in a few months and thinking of getting a axanthic pied ball python. Thinking of the names Azul, Olive, or Onyx. I’m also 10 and can’t really decide.
Hey, I also wanted a snake for a long time. My mother thought they were pretty gross but I finally convinced her by bringing her to a pet shop and they let her hold one. She was competently convinced and bought me a terrarium right away. I am getting a Butter Ghost ball python in a few days and I was thinking to name his Castle. I think if your mom saw a ball python is person and actually held one she will see how cute they are and let you have one.
That’s a great point, Jack! Many people become more comfortable with snakes after coming face-to-face with them in a positive situation!
That’s basically what happened for me haha, my mom didn’t even want to think about living with a snake, now it’s her favorite member of the family
I was the same way. The reason I a got mine to say yes was because I let them know that vet visits aren’t a usual thing, they aren’t as expensive as most animals, they are easy to care for, and MOST IMPORTANTLY you will keep it in your room away from everyone so that only you will enjoy it. Hope this helps:)
Im also 13 and I have a dog in the house and I told my mom that she could put hats on it
My children are 4 and 2 and we have two ball pythons. They are amazing with them. They will crawl all over them and let them hold them however they want. And they are so fun to watch. Also tell your parents you only have to feed them once a week so that’s always a plus.
I has a little boi I call Apollo. He is a ball python and het pastel. He has little aliens on him and he is adorable. The name I picked is cool for him too because he has this one spot on his back that like fades so it looks like the sun. He is also ticklish. If you are interested in the Greek world you’ll know Apollo is the sun god. Sorry for the long comment but my nope rope is so amazing I can’t stop hyping him up.
